Syverud appoints members of workgroup on sexual assault resources

Chancellor Kent Syverud appointed fourteen members on Friday to the Chancellor’s Workgroup on Sexual Violence Prevention, Education and Advocacy.

The group’s purpose is to provide ideas, suggestions and proposals for how the university can continue to address sexual assault and relationship violence on campus, according to an SU news release. The creation of the workgroup was announced in July, one month after services within the Advocacy Center were realigned within other offices on campus. The Counseling Center, the Office of Student Assistance and the Office of Health Promotion now work together to provide support, counseling and education to those affected by sexual and relationship violence.

Syverud has asked the workgroup to prepare a report that will identify gaps in service and support that aren’t currently included in the new structure. That includes aspects of the former Advocacy Center and its programs that could be better integrated, according to the release. In addition, the group has been asked to propose recommendations for further improving the campus and community culture in relation to sexual and relationship violence. Syverud has asked the workgroup to submit its final report by Dec. 15.

The members of the workgroup are:
