Shafer suspends safety Howard for violation of ‘training rules’

Freshman safety Naesean Howard has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of “training rules,” Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer announced during his post-practice press conference Monday.

Howard will not travel to Fort Drum for training camp this week.

“I suspended Naes for the trip indefinitely,” Shafer said, “with the goal being that when we get back on campus I’ll bring him in, sit him down, see if he learned his lesson for breaking training rules.”

Howard, a 5-foot-11, 188-pound safety from West Genesee, N.Y., is listed as the third strong safety on the Orange’s preseason depth chart. Howard was the first recruit to verbally commit to SU’s recruiting Class of 2014 and did so as a running back in March 2013.

Below are two of Howard’s tweets from Monday morning.
