Custis features in Parris’ absence, Moore returns to practice

Jamal Custis took reps with the second team and one with the first-team offense in 11-on-0s Tuesday, shortly after SU Athletics announced that junior tight end Josh Parris will undergo surgery for a lower-body injury.

The freshman Custis and sophomore Kendall Moore are likely to battle for the starting tight end position, and Moore was returning to cutting in practice — for the 25 minutes of practice that were open to the media — for the first time since hobbling off during practice Saturday morning.

Custis filled Parris’ spot in field-goal protection before Moore also blocked on the second kicking unit. They both joined in route-running and blocking drills with tight ends coach Bobby Acosta later in practice.

Moore ran down the sideline and did not participate in any of the designed plays during the portion of practice available to media.
