Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer recently said that Corey Cooper wasn’t with the team due to an upper-body injury, and the H-back announced his transfer from Syracuse on his Instagram on Wednesday night.

Cooper was one of two freshman, with A.J. Long, to enroll at Syracuse in January, but never suited up for anything more than an intra-squad game for the Orange.

Before announcing his transfer, Cooper was a part of a dwindling SU wide receiver corps. Franklin Santos left the team earlier in camp, Corey Winfield has been switched from wide receiver to cornerback and it was announced Tuesday that Adley Enoicy and Keenan Hale will have surgery for lower-body injuries. On top of that, Brisly Estime and Sean Avant — the two H-backs that were ahead of him on the depth chart — have also been hampered by injuries.

But now what was once one of the team’s deepest units takes another hit.

Aside from Syracuse, Cooper initially received college offers from Akron, Maryland, Mississippi State, North Carolina and South Carolina according to Scout.com. He has not yet announced where he will transfer to.
