Verni joins Syracuse as newest assistant coach

Matt Verni will join the Syracuse soccer program as its newest assistant coach, SU head coach Ian McIntyre announced Wednesday.

The hiring comes just two days after it was announced that former assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Mike Miller was leaving Syracuse for a similar position at Duke.

McIntyre and Verni were college teammates at Hartwick from 1994-97.

Verni will assist McIntyre in recruiting and opponent scouting along with team training. He served the past seven seasons as the head coach of the women’s team at Hartwick, where he is third all time in wins with 42.

Before that, he was the head coach of the men’s team at Division II New Haven for three seasons.

Syracuse will host Hartwick in an exhibition on Aug. 16.
