Limam becomes Syracuse’s new women’s tennis coach

Younes Limam was named the new Syracuse women’s tennis coach Tuesday, according to an SU Athletics release.

Limam has been the assistant coach at Rice University for the past five seasons and the Owls have reached the NCAA tournament round of 32 in each of the past three years.

“Coach Limam has an incredible reputation as a rising superstar in NCAA tennis coaching,” SU Director of Athletics Daryl Gross said in the release. “He comes to us highly regarded by his peers with a superb reputation in coaching, recruiting and building championship programs.”

In 2014, the Owls went 18-7, ranking in the top 20 in the country and winning the Conference USA championship.

Limam also served as Rice’s recruiting coordinator, where he brought in a 2013 All-American, 2013 NCAA singles qualifier and several other five-star recruits.

“I am honored to become Syracuse’s head women’s tennis coach,” Limam said in the release. “… and join an athletic department full of Hall of Fame coaches and an amazing staff.”

Before his coaching career, Limam played at Drury University from 2000-03 and was also a member of the Moroccan Junior National Team from 1994-98.

He replaces interim head coach Shelly George, who took over for former head coach Luke Jensen after he resigned midway through the season in January.

Said Limam in the release: “Together, Shelley (George) and I will work tirelessly to provide our student-athletes a positive environment that will not only help them succeed on the court and in the classroom, but also prepare them to become successful in their endeavors after college.”
