Jerome Smith, ranked the 26th-best running back in the class by CBSSports.com and projected as a fringe draft pick, said he’s worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles and is in discussions with other teams.

Former Syracuse running back Jerome Smith and linebacker Marquis Spruill modeled Syracuse’s new uniforms in Destiny USA on Wednesday before sharing updates on their interactions with NFL teams.

Smith, ranked the 26th-best running back in the draft class by CBSSports.com and projected as a fringe pick, said he’s worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles and is in discussions with other teams.

“I met with a lot of teams at the (NFL) Combine,” Smith said. “I didn’t take any private trips, but I met with a lot of teams at the Combine.”

After a disappointing performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, Smith elevated his stock by running around a 4.6-second 40-yard dash time at SU’s Pro Day on March 26.

Spruill, who was not invited to the Combine, said he’s worked out for the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots in Syracuse.

He also visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and has been getting phone calls from many other teams.

At SU’s Pro Day, Spruill said he’s been pitching himself as a versatile player with the speed to play nickelback and the hustle to play on special teams.

In speaking with teams, he said many have discussed using him in multiple roles.

Said Spruill: “I think it just depends on the team’s needs. Right now everybody still sees me as a linebacker, but some teams see me as a nickel linebacker.”
