Gresely, Lopez announce cabinet members

UPDATED: Jan. 2, 8:19 p.m.

Student Association president Boris Gresely and vice president Daniela Lopez announced their choices for Spring 2014 cabinet positions Wednesday night.

The new administration filled six cabinet positions: Kyle Coleman will serve as chief of staff; Brittany Moore will be the director of technology; Anna Giles will be the director of communication; Federico Vicente will serve as director of academic affairs; Sawyer Cresap will be the director of student engagement; and Aysha Seedat will work as director of student life, according to an SA press release.

Lopez released a statement on the cabinet appointees, saying she and Gresely believe each cabinet member was a good fit for their respective position.

“Our goal in appointing the current cabinet members was to create a team based on relevant expertise and dedication to serving the student body,” Lopez said in the statement.

Some newly selected cabinet members have previous experience with SA. Coleman ran for president in November 2012. Cresap was elected as an assembly representative in the fall of 2012 and Vicente is a former College of Arts and Sciences representative.

Seedat, the director of student life, is one cabinet member who has never been in SA. She said she met Lopez through OrangeSeeds, a first year leadership program for which she’s currently an executive board member. She also worked on Gresely’s campaign. Seedat said in an email she’s excited to work with the mix of people in the 58th session.

“I’m super delighted with the group of people that were chosen to be part of the cabinet,” Seedat said. “We have diverse individuals, some that were involved in SA, some that were not, so I’m excited to see the discussion of ideas and perspectives.”

She added that she’d like the Student Life committee to work on improving food variety in dining halls, as well as continue to provide busses for students that go to Wegmans and Target. She said she also wants to work with the Academic Affairs committee to bring an Arabic minor to Syracuse University, something the committee began working on last semester.

Seedat said one of the things that interested her about the Student Life position was that it directly provides services to students. She said she believes there will be some initial challenges, but she’s excited to begin working.

“I think the primary challenge we will be facing is that we are working with a completely different cabinet,” Seedat said. “New people equate to new ideas so I think once we get to know each other’s personalities, we will be able to tackle our initiatives head on.”

Gresely and Lopez officially took over as president and vice president on Jan. 1. The pair was the first to be elected as a presidential and vice presidential duo and will serve for three semesters.
