3-star DE Slayton verbally commits to Syracuse

Three-star defensive end Chris Slayton verbally committed to Syracuse on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Slayton chose the Orange over offers from Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri, Mississippi, Indiana, Michigan State and Illinois, among others per Scout.com. He is from Crete, Ill., and is ranked the No. 88 defensive end in the country.

Slayton, who visited Syracuse on Dec. 6 and was recruited by SU defensive backs coach Fred Reed and defensive line coach Tim Daoust, becomes the 16th verbal recruit for the Orange’s Class of 2014 and fills a hole at the defensive end position
