West makes highlight-reel play for 2nd consecutive week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — For the second straight week, Jarrod West had Syracuse’s biggest highlight-reel play.

Against Wake Forest, it was a touchdown pass to Brisly Estime. Against Maryland on Saturday, it was when West reached up to make a one-handed grab along the sideline.

“I think we’re doing a good job of when our number’s called trying to make more plays,” West said. “The running game’s so good that they’re putting us on an island out there.”

West caught three passes for 42 yards, but the 33-yard reception along the right sideline was the clear highlight.

The wide receiver sprinted down the right sideline in single coverage. SU quarterback Hunt tossed the ball high into the air over West’s head, where only the wide receiver could get it.

West made the catch, but the official ruled that he landed out of bounds. West and Hunt were both calling for a flag, but instead an official review came and overturned the call.

“That was the only thing I was worried about because I was looking up at the ball I didn’t really know if I got my feet down,” West said. “I knew I caught it. I just didn’t know if my feet were in or not.”
