Wales reinjures ankle in SU’s loss to Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. — Beckett Wales sprained his ankle midway through the second quarter, head coach Shafer confirmed.

Wales was helped off the field after Jerome Smith ran for 5 yards. Shafer mentioned that Wales’ ankle problems are nothing new. He strapped ice packs on both of his lower legs at times during training camp.

Shafer doesn’t know how bad the sprain is and he will assess where Wales is at physically within the next few days.

“It’s been something that’s kind of been on again, off again,” Shafer said.

Wales failed to catch any passes before exiting the game. He walked off under his own power with two coaches by his side.

“Beckett’s got an ankle sprain,” Shafer said. “I don’t know to what degree.”
