Trudo, Funderburk return to practice on 1st day at Fort Drum

FORT DRUM, N.Y. — Starting guard Rob Trudo returned to practice in limited action Tuesday as Syracuse opened its second week of training camp at Fort Drum. Trudo, a sophomore, missed practice Monday. On Tuesday he participated in some drills, but also spent a part of practice watching from the side and riding a stationary bike.

Monday’s other notable absentee, junior wide receiver Quinta Funderburk, also returned to the practice field on Tuesday, as did junior defensive back Josh Mims.

Sophomore defensive lineman Tyler Marona and redshirt freshman tackle Kyle Knapp missed practice with upper-body injuries, head coach Scott Shafer said.

Marona was absent from Monday’s practice as well, but this is the first practice that Knapp missed.

“We’ve got a couple little nicks and bruises across the team,” Shafer said.

He noted that Marona and Knapp should return to practice in the next few days. But when asked if they made the trip to Fort Drum, he simply said: “Next question.”

Junior linebacker Josh Kirkland was sidelined for the second straight day with an apparent lower-body injury. He attended practice as he did on Monday.
