Thomas Wolfe, senior vice president and dean of student affairs, is SU leaving to become the 14th president of Iliff School of Theology in Denver.

Thomas Wolfe is leaving his position as senior vice president and dean of student affairs to become the new president of Iliff School of Theology on Aug. 1

Iliff is a graduate theological school related to the United Methodist Church, and is located in Denver. Wolfe will be the school’s 14th president, according to a Wednesday SU News release.

“The position at Iliff is going to be a good fit for me,” Wolfe said. “It was a position that from whatever direction I looked at it from, I could see some experience that I’ve had that would be relevant to it.”

Wolfe began his tenure at Syracuse University in 1991, serving as the Interdenominational Protestant chaplain for eight years. In 1999, Wolfe was appointed the fifth dean of Hendricks Chapel. Since 2008, Wolfe has served as senior vice president and dean of student affairs, as well as a member of the University Senate.

Wolfe said that some of his favorite moments while being in Syracuse were engaging with the city of Syracuse and building relationships with people through board work. He said that being a part of the Syracuse community for 23 years has lent him “amazing opportunities and deep relationships” that he said he feels grateful for.

“Tom Wolfe has been a powerful, positive force at SU in many dimensions,” Chancellor Nancy Cantor said in the release. “SU simply will not be the same without him, but we are thrilled for him to have this opportunity to take his leadership to a new level.”
