Southerland out 2 more games before appeal is heard

Syracuse forward James Southerland is scheduled to have an appeal heard to regain his eligibility some time next week, The Post-Standard reported on Thursday. The timing of the appeal means that Southerland will miss the Orange’s next two games, against Pittsburgh and Notre Dame.

The appeal will be before an SU panel, not the NCAA, The Post-Standard reported.

Southerland was declared ineligible prior to Syracuse’s win over Villanova on Jan. 12 due to an undisclosed academic issue. The forward has remained out since, and the Orange has gone 3-1 in four games without him.

The senior still ranks second on the team in points per game with 13.6 and leads the team with 33 3-pointers made.
