West Virginia center Madsen ruled academically ineligible for Pinstripe Bowl

West Virginia center Joey Madsen has been ruled academically ineligible and will not play against Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl Dec. 29, the Charleston Daily Mail reports.

Madsen, a senior, has started in 50 of the Mountaineers’ last 51 games as a center. The lone game he missed was also a bowl game—he was academically ineligible when WVU played North Carolina State in the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl.

Madsen was named second-team all-Big 12 this season after playing all but eight offensive snaps for West Virginia and leading the team with 55 knockdowns.

John Bassler is listed as the backup center, but the Mountaineers could opt to move starting right guard Jeff Braun inside to center and replace him with either Pat Eger or Nick Kinder. Both Eger and Kinder have logged at least one start at right guard this season.
