SPD investigates shots fired near Warehouse early Sunday morning

Shots were fired near The Warehouse early Sunday morning by the Route 690 exit ramp at the corner of W. Fayette Street and West Street.

Students came into the Warehouse and said they heard “two pops,” near the bridge on W. Fayette Street, said John Sardino, Department of Public Safety associate chief.

After the students reported the shots, DPS notified the Syracuse Police Department. SPD is currently investigating the incident, Sardino said.

Sgt. Tom Connellan of SPD said the shots were fired at about 6 a.m. According to photos of the incident, it appears the shots were fired up in the air, although the photos were taken from a distance so it is difficult to tell, he said.

The students were not believed to be the target and just happened to be around when the shots were fired, Connellan said. No injuries were reported in connection to the incident, he said.

The students who witnessed the incident were unable to provide any information about those involved and SPD currently has no suspects, Connellan said.
