But celebrations started even before Syracuse secured the win. Three fans formed the “900 club,” and, with nine minutes remaining, Carrier Dome workers handed out miniature Boeheim heads, on popsicle sticks, with the words “Coach Jim Boeheim 900 wins” on the back. An announcement asked fans to stick around after the game to honor Boeheim when the Orange led by 18 in the second half.

Tensions were high towards the end of the game with SU leading 67-63 with 29 seconds left and Detroit going to the foul line. But the Orange were able to secure the win 72 to 68 and the sea of Orange fans began celebrating. Boeheim was then presented with a commemorative “900” jersey.
