A line forms in Bird Library Tuesday as students and community members gather to vote.

President Barack Obama has been projected as the winner for New York state, The New York Times reported just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

New York’s 29 electoral votes will be going to the Democratic candidate. The polls closed for the state at 9 p.m., and the projected winner was declared right after the polls closed.

The Democratic candidate has carried New York state in the last seven presidential elections.

Florida, a swing state which also has 29 electoral votes, is tied between Obama and Romney with 53 percent of the total vote counted as of 9:05 p.m.
