Mayor Stephanie Miner nominated to serve as co-chair of New York State Democratic Committee

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner has accepted the nomination to co-chair the New York State Democratic Committee. She was nominated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Miner, along with Manhattan Assemblyman Keith Wright, will have her name submitted for consideration by the full committee, according to a May 22 New York State Democratic Committee press release.

Both nominees will be formally presented for election at the State Committee meeting on June 5, according to the release.

‘Mayor Miner and Assemblyman Wright are outstanding leaders both for our party and our state,’ Cuomo said in the release. ‘They have been dedicated community leaders and champions of the key missions of the Democratic Party. I thank them for agreeing to serve in these critical positions and look forward to working with them in their new roles.’

In reaction to the news of Miner’s nomination, Common Councilor Lance Denno said in an email that he thinks ‘Councilor Hogan said it all in the Post-Standard this morning.’

Common Councilor Patrick Hogan said in a May 22 article by The Post-Standard that he thinks the position as co-chair of the state’s democratic party would be a lot of extra work.

‘I would have thought being mayor of Syracuse is sort of a full time job,’ Hogan said in the article.

But Common Councilor Bob Dougherty said he is not concerned about the additional work that Miner’s new position will require.

‘Knowing the mayor, I know she is aware of how much she can handle, so I’m not too worried about that,’ Dougherty said. ‘If anything, this is positive news for the city because it can’t hurt to have our city’s mayor representing the state’s democratic party.’

If elected, Miner will officially assume her new position on June 5, according to the release.
