Letter to the Editor : Advocacy Center calls for dialogue on sexual abuse

During the past few weeks, the issue of child sexual abuse has come to the forefront of the awareness of our community members. For so many of us, it can be very difficult to process all that we are hearing and the emotions that are being stirred up.

As we talk about sexual abuse, we should be mindful that there are members of our community who have been directly affected by abuse, and the more we learn about this issue, the better we can speak sensitively and supportively. As we strive to become a community united in preventing abuse in all its forms, it is important that we talk with one another about what additional steps we can take toward creating a supportive, caring and respectful community.

It is a time to have conversations that are difficult conversations but important conversations. Please know that The Advocacy Center encourages these discussions. We are a confidential resource that can help guide individuals and our community in learning about and understanding these sensitive and very important issues that touch everyone.
